Christmas Wish List

Comments section from my previous post quickly devolved into a discussion of the potential awesomeness of midfat tires.
And ultimately culminated in me sending this email to Surly:

I don't know why the screen shot came through so blurry.

All I want for Christmas is to buy some marge lites and 26X3.0 Knards for my 1x1.

26+

You know you want to.

I'll consider the seed planted.

Have a nice day

Like the idea?  Drop them a line, bribe them with beverages, can't hurt.

  1. Wow, I don't stop by for a couple of days and I miss the start of the revolution! Good job on getting the ball rolling. I'll send off an exhortation of my own.

  2. Do it. Let your voice be heard. I got an email back from Eric at Surly this morning.

  3. My letter:

    Hi Surly folks,

I'd like to put my support (and the promise of a chunk of my hard-earned greenbacks) behind the idea of a 26 x 3.0 Knard tire. You may recall Nthn from Alaska of http://bikewrider.blogspot.com openly wishing for such a tire the other day. I have had sugarplumb-like dreams dancing in my head of what I would do with 26 x 3.0 Knards ever since I encountered the concept of a 26+ bike. A marginally fat carcass 559 mm diameter tire with lots of lowish-profile knobs would be perfect with a lot of 26er Surly frames (29er too, for that matter). I have an especially strong desire to shoehorn a pair of these nearly fat tires onto my Big Dummy.

Anyway, I'd be happy to ply the Ideatron 8000 with some locally distilled grain alcohol if that aids in its pondering process.

    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

  4. Awesome,
great idea to ply the Ideatron with tasty beverages.

Although having tried to stuff my Gazzaloddis into my Big Donkey I'm going to guess some serious shoehorning might be necessary to fit it in back. That rear cross brace is the bugger

Nick was recently discussing some ideas involving a baseball bat.

I'm beyond my two-year frame warranty, so I reasonably inclined to try it.

  5. Are you suggesting we threaten the Ideatron with a baseball bat for even greater tire clearances? It is inadvisable, and may void your freedom. Grain alcohol seems to work best.

  6. It looks like you may be close to getting your wish. Check out the Surly blog titled, "Ta-Dah" from 7/26/13. Looks like they have a Surly tire on the reintroduced Instigator with 2.75" on the sidewall.

The Ideatron 8000 just might off.
